Introducing
Avi Albert
Clinical Research Fellow in Healthcare Equity and Vaccine Safety
Avi is a dedicated medical student in the class of 2027 at Meharry Medical College. Born and raised in the greater Los Angeles, California area, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, majoring in Biology: Physiology. With this accomplishment, Avi became the first in his family to graduate from college, finishing his degree in just three years. During his time at the University of Washington, he engaged in neuroscience research, focusing on the role of thalamic inputs on motor cortex synchronization.
After graduating in 2023, Avi entered Meharry Medical College with an ambition to specialize in neurosurgery. In his first year, he participated in research on sport-related concussions, exploring clinical outcomes and recovery processes. Avi's interest in public health and his commitment to enhancing healthcare quality for African Americans and other minorities grew significantly during his studies at Meharry. This passion led him to collaborate with Dr. Caldwell, investigating the safety and efficacy of a new shingles vaccine from GSK in the African American community. Their goal is to gather substantial data to support vaccine safety and efficacy, ultimately boosting vaccine confidence and improving healthcare outcomes.
Avi and Dr. Caldwell are committed to bridging the gap in clinical trial diversity for the shingles vaccine and are dedicated to advancing healthcare equity at large. Avi's multicultural background and upbringing in a diverse city fuel his drive to improve accessibility and diversity in healthcare for all.
