Christian Barksdale is a recent biology graduate from Mississippi Valley State University and an aspiring cardiologist with a passion for improving health outcomes in underserved communities. Raised in the Mississippi Delta, he witnessed firsthand the disproportionate impact of chronic conditions such as diabetes, which has fueled his commitment to advancing health equity through both clinical care and research.
Christian has experience in bioinformatics and genetic research, including work with CRISPR-Cas9 technologies, and has presented his research at the Mississippi Academy of Sciences. He is a four-time Presidential Scholar, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a University Innovation Fellow, demonstrating both academic excellence and leadership.
Beyond his academic and research pursuits, Christian is deeply committed to building pathways for students in the Delta to pursue careers in STEM. He aspires to combine medicine, education, and mentorship to not only treat disease but also to empower the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals.
