Introducing
Nikki G. Bannister

Health Law, Policy, Management

Nikki G. Bannister is a graduate student at Meharry Medical College School of Global Health, in its Health Law, Policy and Management program. She is a U.S. Navy veteran, journalist and strategic communications professional who brings more than two decades of experience in public policy and legislative affairs (local, state and territorial government), disaster recovery, and humanitarian initiatives.

Nikki's research focuses on the political and legal determinants of health, with particular interests in aging populations, veterans, rural and territorial health systems, and health equity. Drawing on her professional and lived experiences, she examines how law, governance and public policy shape access to care and health outcomes among underserved communities. Her work has also included community engagement and public health initiatives in the U.S. Virgin Islands, rural Louisiana and South Africa.

Nikki is passionate about translating research into practical policy solutions that strengthen health systems and improve the lives of older adults, veterans, caregivers and vulnerable populations. Outside of her research exploring the intersection of law, policy and public health, she is an avid sports fan and an armchair Jeopardy! champion.
