Introducing Jonathan Low

Clinical Research Associates Lab Lead & Medical Teaching Assistant

Jonathan Low is from Charleston, SC, and was the first African American to earn his Biochemistry degree from Anderson University in 2018. His journey into the realm of healthcare began with intensive research at the Center for Cancer Research during his undergraduate years as a Cancer Research Scholar. Following this, he delved into medical internships at the Medical University of South
Carolina and AnMed Health, furthering his practical experience.
In 2020, Low pursued an advanced degree in Biomedical Sciences, undertaking a joint program offered by Bluefield College and the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Throughout his academic pursuits, he distinguished himself, securing numerous regional and national grants for his research. Notably, he received the prestigious Ernest E. Just Award for Excellence in
Research, highlighting his commitment and prowess in the scientific domain.

Transitioning from cancer research, Low developed a keen interest in public health, particularly focusing on the intricate relationship between health equity, economic dynamics, and disparities in American society. Driven by his familial heritage and a personal mission to bridge
the healthcare gap for marginalized communities, especially African Americans and Hispanics, he aspires to effect change at the intersection of technology, medicine, and policy.

Low's ambitions led him to co-found Centro Health Solutions, a Health Tech company established in 2022, aimed at pioneering innovative solutions to healthcare challenges.
Currently, under the mentorship of Dr. Caldwell, he is conducting groundbreaking public health research while actively contributing to initiatives such as Project Cure, dedicated to addressing global medical resource shortages.
Amidst his academic endeavors, Low maintains a steadfast involvement with ABC News, fostering relationships crucial for advancing healthcare advocacy and awareness. As an M3 student at Meharry Medical College, he also lends his expertise to initiatives like Dry January USA, headquartered at the college, advocating for healthier lifestyle choices within communities.

Bridging that gap for minorities, specifically African Americans and Hispanics, in the United States, is a personal goal of his due to his family heritage.  With a multidisciplinary academic background and a fervent dedication to improving healthcare accessibility and equity, Jonathan Low is poised to make significant strides in shaping the future of healthcare policy and practice in America and beyond such as his mother’s birth country, Panama
